VTCo introduces School Guide, a free tool for Metro Vancouver's school and neighbourhood questions
Now officially available across Metro Vancouver, School Guide answers school and catchment questions from one integrated public record, with a source and a date on every figure.
VANCOUVER, BC - July 1, 2026 - The Visual Thinking Company (VTCo) today released School Guide, a free civic tool that answers the school-and-neighbourhood question for families across Metro Vancouver from one integrated public record. School Guide moves from beta to general availability with catchment search, program filters, and a source line and “as of” date on every figure, so a family can see where each answer comes from and when it was current.
One record, one place to look
Families researching a move face a school-and-neighbourhood question whose answers sit in separate public records. School Guide brings those records together at neighbourhood grain, so catchments, programs, and nearby capacity can be seen in one place. VTCo’s boundary holds across every tool: surface, never score.
What families can do
School Guide lets a family search schools by location and by catchment, and filter by program, including French Immersion and International Baccalaureate. Walk-score context sits alongside each school for a sense of the surrounding neighbourhood. Each answer carries a public source and a date, so the record behind it stays visible.
The record behind it
School Guide reads from the Social Infrastructure Database (SID), VTCo’s integrated civic record built from more than 500 public sources across 57,936 dissemination areas (2021 Census). SID is the substrate beneath VTCo’s tools; the same record that families read for free supports the intelligence institutions rely on to plan.
